Below is a note from Dr. de Boer about her work:
Working with children with ASD is a challenging, rewarding and ever-changing field. I always tell people that no one ever knows just what to do in a particular situation in teaching or handling a behavior with a child with ASD – it’s that we just get better at making educated guesses. I love working in early intervention with small children with ASD because of the hope that I feel in making a difference in their lives…for the rest of their lives… Each small step of progress is so amazing in that beautiful tiny little life that is growing and changing every day.
Please feel free, as a parent, school administrator, teacher or paraeducator, to contact me to provide training, do an observation and provide recommendations, provide consultation to teaching staff or administrators. I am flexible and can customize my services to your needs.
While my experience and expertise in early intervention for children with ASD covers the whole gambit, my particular passion is in preparing young preschoolers for Kindergarten and including children with ASD in the general education classroom. I love to create inclusion programs in schools for many kids, or in just one classroom for one child. I enjoy teaching and training paraeducators and teachers to understand autism or Asperger’s; and to analyze the children’s behavior and understand what motivates them in order to figure out how to teach them. I believe that the best model for training is through a combination of lecture, small group work, modeling and hands-on coaching.
